About This Role

Strava is the leading social platform for athletes and the largest sports community in the world, with over 85 million athletes in 195 countries. If you sweat you’re an athlete, and Strava’s mobile apps and website connect millions of active people every day. We are looking for a Summer 2022 intern to help scale data at Strava. Every day, we collect massive amounts of information from athletes all over the world, and our dataset is an essential component of the company’s enterprise value.

The Data Platform team is responsible for unlocking the potential of this data for our athletes and internal customers. You will be a fully integrated member of the team and collaborate with other members to build, maintain, and develop scalable data processes and platforms. We work closely with our internal partners to ensure proper data availability for their various use cases, and our mission is to create self-service access to reliable, consistent, and durable data.

Note: This team is focused on building the underlying platform and developing software to ensure data availability. Though we engage with Machine Learning and Analytics teams, we do not work on model building or analysis. To see internships in Machine Learning, click here. You’re excited about this opportunity because you will:

  • Develop self-service, foundational tools to empower internal customers with the wealth of insights available via our data.
  • Interact with cross-functional teams like Data Analytics and Machine Learning to help ensure that their data needs are fulfilled for reporting and analysis.
  • Contribute to and maintain Strava’s self-service data pipeline in support of our various customers. 
  • Participate in company wide tech-talks and Strava Jams (a week long hackathon).

You will be successful here by having a:

  • Passion and curiosity for data.
  • Willingness to make mistakes and learn from them.
  • Desire to collaborate with team members to solve data problems.

We’re excited about you because you have:

  • Experience with any programming language such as Python, R, Scala, Java.
  • Experience with data structures.
  • Familiarity with the software development lifecycle.
  • Awareness of general coding best practices, documentation, and testing.
  • Rising Senior (2023 grad).
