About Closeup Relevance Team
Closeup recommendations at Pinterest help users explore the topics they are interested in and get continuous inspirations. This is usually done by recommending content related to an initial pin and the user context, often letting pinners discover the content they love but can’t quite describe in words. This is one of the largest impression surfaces on Pinterest and we work with some of the largest datasets in the world, creating unique experiences for hundreds of millions of users. Our content ranges across all categories as well as a variety of formats, from images to videos and to our new native content format – idea pins. Our system serves billions of impressions on a daily basis, for users all over the world. You’ll have the opportunity to work on the entire tech stack of a modern recommendation system and use machine learning and data driven methods to advance the baselines at scale.
Closeup is the biggest impression surface among all discovery surfaces on Pinterest. It is critical for engagement and revenue and also uniquely important for pinners’ inspiration-to-realization journey. Being able to serve quality, relevant and user-and-context-aware recommendations is critical to the team’s success. Closeup recommendations has significant room for growth. Our current recommendation doesn’t take into consideration user session as a whole and downstream engagement impact. We would like to leverage cutting edge machine learning technologies to improve the entire pinner’s journey.
