Pinterest Technical Program Managers deliver critical & strategic technical outcomes by directing and scaling engineering effort across organizational and functional boundaries. The programs they lead have most or all of these characteristics:
- Strategic importance to Pinterest
- Distributed ownership
- Complexity
- Critical technical area or platform
The right candidate for the Data Governance & Privacy, Technical Program Manager role will be an experienced technical lead for data governance initiatives who can strategize with cross-functional stakeholders, communicate effectively, and drive technical decision-making. This is a multi-faceted role in a data-driven environment so flexibility, technical skills, a strong work ethic, and strong communication are a must.
What you will do:
- Drive Pinterest’s data deletion strategy to comply with regulatory requirements, and maintain user commitments; make strategic decisions based on querying and analyzing data
- Ownership for data governance across all of Data Engineering to cover AWS S3, workflow, and more
- Support data governance development initiatives that enable product, engineering and tooling improvements across Pinterest systems and processes
- Communicate & coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders to embed data governance controls and policies across the enterprise
- Develop strong partnerships with key stakeholders from data eng (e.g. privacy, machine learning, and logging), Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Security, and Legal
- Identify technology gaps and assist key stakeholders in arriving at a build vs buy decision
- Identify project risks and suggest mitigation measures to meeting goals for data governance
What we are looking for:
- 5+ years of data, governance risk and/or compliance experience
- 2+ years of data architecture experience
- Proficiency in querying data using Presto and/or Spark SQL or similar data querying and visualization tools, and using basic analytics for prioritization
- An effective technical communicator. Ability to design documentation structures that precisely communicate requirements, accountability, task assignment, status, progress towards milestones, and overall confidence in program deliverables across multiple teams. Anticipates issues and proposes solutions.
- A strategic thinker. Continually identifies gaps and areas to improve with proper prioritization and communication to all stakeholders.
- Entrepreneurial self-starter. You have the ability to lead and develop a new operation from the ground up and can operate in ambiguity.
- A Computer Science background is helpful
