Overview

As Director of the Data Engineering team at AbleTo, you will manage, grow and develop a team of data and analytics engineers dedicated to the craft of building a world class data platform to support our mental health care mission. You are passionate about creating an environment where engineers can tackle ambitious goals without compromising a healthy and integrated life. You are a strong data technologist, with experience designing and building data and information processes and services. You enjoy working with and providing service to product oriented cross-functional teams consisting of engineers, product managers, QA and operations team members. Primary responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage data and analytics engineers engaged in a full cycle agile process from specification to deployment. Represent and support your engineers across different parts of our organization.
  • Develop and coach team members, ensuring a high level of engagement, performance and professional growth. Handle a diverse team of engineers and assist in their continuous professional development plans.
  • Support the data engineering roadmap to realize an automated, reliable, testable cost-efficient data platform built on Google Cloud.
  • Support the ability to manage, measure and communicate the team’s progress toward goals.
  • Support and participate in key technical, design, and product discussions of various initiatives. Represent your team with leaders across different parts of our organization.
  • Continually provide the team with guidance and direction regarding implementation methods and gaining clarity on technical requirements; identify opportunities for process improvement; assist in the development of departmental standards and practices.
  • Use metrics and OKRs to achieve operational excellence. Engage and drive effort with Change, Incident, and Problem Management. Utilize Agile methodologies to drive and communicate work efforts.
  • As hiring manager, in collaboration with other technology leaders, define and maintain the interview process for your team. Partner closely with the recruiting team on sourcing strategies, interviewing, closing and onboarding.

 

 

What You will Own:

  • Growth and development of Data and Analytics Engineers
  • Data Platform environment and development standards and procedures
  • Data Platform incident management

 

 

Key Initiatives over the next 12 months:

  • Support and lead deployment of several new data products and services
  • Implement standards and processes to achieve operational excellence
  • Define and improve engineering architecture and process documentation
  • Create and execute an triage and incident management process
  • Lead process creation and execution for nearshore and offshore engineering capacity

 

 

Experience:

  • 7+ years leading data and analytics teams and engineers
  • Knowledge of data and analytics engineering best practices and technologies
  • Experience with Data Integration tools such as Python and Informatica Cloud
  • Experience with BI tools such as Looker
  • Experience with Agile practices (e.g. Scrum, Kanban)
  • Demonstrable understanding of common architectural patterns and frameworks
  • Experienced in effective communications to technical audiences in both verbal and written forms
