THE ROLE

The Data Analyst is a new role focused on managing the fundraising data stored in the team’s newly implemented CRM, Salesforce’s Nonprofit Success Pack. This will involve managing philanthropy’s data validity, hygiene, currency, retention and data dictionary.  Develop and implement a portfolio of reports and dashboards used to support the team’s initiatives, business processes and insights. Serve as the liaison between the organization’s data analytics team and the philanthropy team to ensure we have the impact and business insights data needed to report on our impact to donors. Ensure there are clear and effective business processes and relationships with other teams across the organization that impact philanthropy data. This position reports to the Senior Manager of Donor Operations. 

Key Responsibilities:

Data Management, Analytics & Reporting (50%)

  • Design, create, test and deploy reports and dashboards in Salesforce for fundraisers, and management to review and analyze their portfolios, pipeline, audiences, campaigns, and overall  fundraising performance.  
  • Create, build and direct data analysis projects to provide recommendations and insights for Philanthropy operations and constituent engagement. Analysis to include time-series, segmentation/cohort comparisons, and impact analysis.
  • Create and manage reports, dashboards & data visualizations for ad hoc, recurring and yearly reporting analyses.  
  • Develop new ways to gain insight from data to inform decision making and new tools and modes of data sharing and visualization to best communicate needs, trends, opportunities, and impact.
  • Act as Philanthropy’s “data champion”for organization-wide data analytics and help answer important funder questions about Khan Academy’s impact by collaborating with the Data Analytics team and using business intelligence tools like Looker.

CRM & Data Architecture (20%)

  • Catalog, maintain and build CRM data model along with other data stores critical for Philanthropy operations, data analytics, and data analysis.
  • Work with vendors and other internal data specialists to ensure CRM data is mapped to key systems, data stores, and reporting tools.
  • Manage Salesforce data loads and provide data hygiene reports and dashboards to ensure CRM is up-to-date, integrations are healthy, and user data entry is valid.

Training (15%)

  • Train users on how to use reports and dashboards.
  • Train users on data dictionary, data standards, and analytics.
  • Proactively identify essential changes to business operations and processes to ensure CRM and data is reliable.

Cross Team Collaboration(15%)

  • Serve as CRM data subject matter expert for Philanthropy data with other teams including analytics team.
  • Manage and deliver data analysis to fulfill hygiene and integration projects as related to the CRM.
  • Evaluate changes that could affect Philanthropy data and communicate impacts to other teams as necessary e.g. engineering, data analytics, etc.

 

Knowledge & Skills

  • CRM reporting and dashboards
  • Data analysis, relational databases, SQL (preferred)
  • Ability to bring data into real-time decisions and priorities.
  • Time and project management skills.
  • Train users on reports, dashboards and other analytic tools
  • Knowledge of  Philanthropic data types and structures
  • Knowledge of email marketing tools, and how data is loaded and generated from these systems
  • Knowledge of business intelligence tools like Looker, Tableau
  • Knowledge of productivity tools (Google Workspace, Office 365, Salesforce)

 

THE TEAM

The Philanthropy Team is charged with raising the philanthropic funds needed to fund and sustain Khan Academy’s mission. The team raises more than $40 million annually  from a variety of donors (individuals, foundations and corporations) and stewards donors towards renewed giving. To do this, the team communicates Khan Academy's mission, strategy, programs and impact to the donors whose interests align with our mission and work. 

 

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 3-6 years of professional experience in a technical operations role (analyst, developer, administrator) supporting a Development, Fundraising, Philanthropy or equivalent function.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Experience with cloud based systems/platforms, SaaS training, automation, and process design.
  • Salesforce training and certifications desired.
  • 2+ years as a Salesforce super user and/or admin preferred
