About the role:
The Health Economics and Outcomes Researcher will be a key contributor to the newly established Included Health Health Economics and Outcomes Research team. Included Health is uniquely positioned to drive improved health outcomes through its novel combination of financial, administrative, care navigation, and care delivery capabilities. The team is responsible for conducting research and disseminating new insights into the broader healthcare knowledge base through peer-reviewed literature. The research will encompass a wide array of analyses and evaluations across many products and services, including Virtual Care (tele-urgent, specialty/Expert Medical Opinion), Navigation and Behavioral Health. We have a vast amount of longitudinal data sets including, but not limited to, enrollment, claims, second opinion services, provider recommendations, member-reported outcomes, and clinical notes. Data scale ranges from small data sets that fit on a single laptop to large multi-terabyte clinical information in distributed database systems. 

We are looking for a motivated, intellectually curious, quantitative researcher with experience digging into a variety of healthcare data to construct reliable, documented data sets necessary to support robust analyses. The ideal candidate has strong interpersonal skills, is mission driven and looking for a chance to use their quantitative skill set to identify opportunities and successes that support our mission to raise the standard of healthcare for everyone. This position sits in our Health Strategy and Insights department and reports to the Senior Director of Health Economics and Outcomes Research. 

Responsibilities:

    • Independently construct valid and reliable research datasets required for analyses and evaluations that demonstrate the impact and value of navigation, virtual care and new models of delivery for members/patients 
    • Support Sr. Health Economics and Outcomes Researcher in executing the empirical methodologies for research studies 
    • Partner with data and product subject matter experts to thoroughly understand the limitations and possibilities of underlying data sources
    • Thoroughly document logic, decisions, and definitions of research datasets 
    • Contribute to technical writing of study and presentation materials
    • Be an active member in the growing research community at Included Health, working with clinical, data science, and analytic partners to strengthen our research voice 
    • Contribute to Included Health data quality, documentation and governance 

Qualifications:

    • 4+ years of experience manipulating health care data (e.g., claims, electronic health records, patient survey) and other related data sets to execute a research plan 
    • Degree should be in a technical discipline such as Statistics, Math, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or quantitative social science
    • Ability to identify, quantify, and explain intricacies of the data; proactively anticipate and address questions that may be raised about data validity and reliability from stakeholders 
    • Experience navigating and joining across multiple complex data sets using relational databases (examples include SQL, Pandas, R, SAS, STATA) 
    • ​​Comfort with ambiguity and defining an approach to a given question or problem
    • Experience working with various types of data including (but not limited to) medical/Rx claims data, eligibility data, and survey data
    • Motivated to contribute to publications that aligns with the spirit of Included Health’s mission to raise the standard of healthcare for everyone 
    • Strong attention to detail 
    • Eagerness to create new multi-faceted research datasets and learn new analytical approaches
    • Ability to work in cross-functional teams alongside researchers, clinicians, and data analysts to conduct longitudinal studies 
    • Prior digital health industry experience (Preferred)
    • Experience conducting statistical analyses using Python, SAS, STATA, or R (Strongly Preferred)
