About the role:
The Sr. Health Economics and Outcomes Researcher will lead the technical execution of research studies as part of the newly created Health Economics and Outcomes Research team within Included Health. Included Health is uniquely positioned to drive improved health outcomes through its novel combination of financial, administrative, care navigation, and care delivery capabilities. The team is responsible for conducting research and disseminating new insights into the broader healthcare knowledge base through peer-reviewed literature. The research will encompass a wide array of analyses and evaluations across many products and services, including Virtual Care (tele-urgent, specialty/Expert Medical Opinion), Navigation and Behavioral Health. We have a vast amount of longitudinal data sets including, but not limited to, enrollment, claims, second opinion services, provider recommendations, member-reported outcomes, and clinical notes. Data scale ranges from small data sets that fit on a single laptop to large multi-terabyte clinical information in distributed database systems. 

We are looking for an experienced quantitative researcher with health services/population health experience to serve as the technical lead on an array of research studies. We are especially interested in researchers with advanced training in statistical and economic approaches such as a PhD or MS who have conducted research using healthcare claims and related data sets. This position sits in our Health Strategy and Insights department and reports to the Included Health Senior Director of Health Economics and Outcomes Research. 

Responsibilities:

    • Lead the development and execution of advanced empirical methodologies that demonstrate the impact and value of navigation, virtual care and new models of delivery for members 
    • Work side-by-side with programmers and data analysts to build research data sets that align with study specifications and may include claims, digital health utilization, member-reported outcomes, and member call data 
    • Engage with internal subject matter experts to intimately understand Included Health product or service of interest, clarify study objectives and hypotheses, and clarify data availability and definitions 
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners on study design and execution  
    • Meaningfully contribute to technical writing of study  
    • Present results both internally and externally to technical and non-technical audiences 

Qualifications:

    • 5+ years of post-graduate experience in health services research, statistics, economics, or related field in academia or industry
    • PhD in health-related field (economics, health services research, public health, etc.) or Masters Degree such as MS
    • Substantial experience analyzing health care claims (e.g. commercial, Medicare or Medicaid) and other related datasets to execute a research plan 
    • Demonstrated understanding and thorough experience successfully using an array of quantitative research methods to evaluate the impact of health care products, services, or policies
    • Advanced knowledge navigating and joining across multiple complex data sets using relational databases (examples include SQL, Pandas, R, SAS, STATA) 
    • Excellent verbal communications, including the ability to clearly and concisely articulate complex analytic concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences 
    • Motivated to contribute to publications that aligns with the spirit of Included Health’s mission to raise the standard of healthcare for everyone 
    • Ability to deal with ambiguity 
    • Ability to work closely alongside programmers and data analysts to conduct studies 
    • Prior digital health industry experience (Preferred)
    • Contribution to health services/population health peer-reviewed literature (Preferred)
