Responsibilities

Powering the Promise.  Every day, thousands of P&C Claim associates use claim applications to keep the promise we have made to help customers recover from the unexpected. All these Claim applications leverage lots of data. We provide data services which are essential for enabling Claim associates to keep the State Farm promise.

We are a centralized data team, responsible for a broad data ecosystem and a significant amount of distributed data. Our team supports a wide range of technologies, from traditional mainframe to emerging cloud technologies. We also provide a wide range of services and therefore a variety of responsibilities and assignments in which to be involved.

Central Claims Data team is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to develop and maintain data applications. In this assignment, you will acquire and leverage your knowledge of claims data to deliver data services for product teams and business. You will also work on a variety of technologies (mainframe, Linux, cloud) and databases (zOS Db2, Postgres, Salesforce) in providing data support. You will work with others to research and resolve issues with production data. You will also understand data governance and ensure solutions comply with data standards for data access, data quality, sensitive data. You will also develop and maintain the team’s work intake tool and help to automate data tasks for the team.

A day in the life of a Lead Data Engineer in Central Claims Data team could include:

  • Creating and deploying stored procedures for claims applications
  • Monitoring daily jobs and application logs and fixing any issues encountered
  • Discussing possible data concerns with business and finding & fixing data as needed 
  • Creating or updating data jobs to enable cloud modernization


Qualifications

Competitive candidates will bring proficiency in:

  • COBOL & JCL, mainframe development processes, stored procedures
  • SQL, finding and fixing data (zOS DB2 and Postgres)
  • SQL/PL, maintaining stored procedures
  • Python 
  • Data Governance (sensitive data, data access, data quality)

Preferred skills:

  • Working knowledge of DB2 security
  • Django
  • CI/CI pipelines (Git & Jenkins)
  • Vault integration
  • Salesforce (APEX)

Salary Range: $91,870 - $193,500
