The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company’s regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule YEAR-ROUND.

Your Responsibilities

As a Part-Time Student - Data Science and Analytics for John Deere you will:

  • Use data mining techniques to analyze high resolution machine and agronomic data in the development and testing of production-ready predictive models.  
  • Define, quantify, and analyze Key Performance Indicators that define successful customer outcomes.  
  • Develop and deliver insights and recommendations from precision agriculture data for product stakeholders, producing both standard and ad hoc reports.
  • Ensure that data is stored efficiently and can support the required analytics, performing analyses to address data quality issues and identify automation opportunities. 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gain a comprehensive, wholistic understanding of a given problem statement, and collaborate with team members to share best practices and accelerate opportunities for learning.
  • Operate in an Agile software development team, providing input to design solutions and participating in design reviews.

What Skills You Need

  • Ideally you will be pursuing a Graduate degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or other Engineering/Technical disciplines; others may apply
  • Must be registered as a full-time Graduate student at a US accredited university
  • Graduation date of May 2025 or later
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Able to work 16-20 hours/week during the academic year
  • Able to work 35-40 hours/week during the summer semester
  • Must be able to complete work and assignments remotely
  • Must be able to travel onsite temporarily for training and onboarding purposes

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Familiar with how to develop production-ready models in Python
  • Demonstrated competency in using one or more data-access technologies, such as SQL, Spark, Databricks, BigQuery, MongoDB, etc. 
  • Experience building machine learning models such as regression, supervised learning, unsupervised learning, probabilistic inference, natural language modeling, etc.  
  • Experience with Visualization tools, such as Tableau, PowerBI, DataStudio, etc. 
  • Experience with Data Modeling techniques such as normalization, data quality and coverage assessment, attribute analysis, performance management, etc. 
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in roles that required strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with Geospatial data and remote sensing data

NOTE: For Iowa State University Engineering students, this assignment will qualify for an ISU co-op position working 20 hours per week.
