The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company’s regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule YEAR-ROUND.
Your Responsibilities
As a Part-Time Student - Data Scientist for John Deere Intelligent Solutions you will:
- Use data mining techniques to analyze high resolution machine and agronomic data in the development and testing of production-ready predictive models.
- Define, quantify, and analyze Key Performance Indicators that define successful customer outcomes.
- Develop and deliver insights and recommendations from precision agriculture data for product stakeholders, producing both standard and ad hoc reports.
- Coordinate with the Data Engineering teams to ensure data is stored efficiently and can support the required analytics.
- Perform analysis to address data quality issues and identify automation opportunities.
- Operate in an Agile software development team, providing input to design solutions and participating in design reviews.
- Develop recommendations within established guidelines; work and decisions are reviewed by technical leads before implementation.

What Skills You Need
- Ideally you will be pursuing a Graduate degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or Engineering, Software Engineering, or another Engineering discipline; others may apply.
- Must be registered as a full-time student at a U.S. accredited university.
- Graduation date of December 2024 or later.
- Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above.
- Able to work 16-20 hours/week during the academic year.
- Able to work 35-40 hours/week during the summer semester.
- Familiar with how to develop production-ready models in Python.
- Demonstrated competency in using one or more data-access technologies such as SQL, Spark, Databricks, BigQuery, MongoDB, etc.
What Makes You Stand Out
- Experience with Data Modeling techniques such as normalization, data quality and coverage assessment, attribute analysis, performance management, etc.
- Experience building machine learning models such as regression, supervised learning, unsupervised learning, probabilistic inference, natural language modeling, etc.
- Experience building operations research models, such as Linear/Non-linear Programming.
- Experience with Visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, DataStudio, etc.
- Excellent communication skills. Able to effectively lead meetings, to document work for reproduction, to write persuasively, to communicate proof-of-concepts, present results, and to effectively take notes.
- Experience in roles that required strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
