This position lies within the Enterprise Data & Machine Learning team.  The EDML team focuses on data and ML platform design and development aimed at improving the productivity and efficacy of thousands of fellow data scientists and engineers throughout the organization. This foundation will facilitate hundreds of millions of ML enabled member and consumer touchpoints. Our work is ambitious and far reaching with the potential to become a new internal standard, an OSS project, or differentiating intellectual property.

The Enterprise Data and Machine Learning team developing CVS Health’s Machine Learning and Feature Engineering Platform is looking for an exceptional Principal Software Engineer to join our team in one of our locations in Hartford, CT or New York, NY with hybrid work options.  This team is building the cloud ML platform to supercharge analytics in a modern centralized ecosystem across the enterprise.

As a Principal Engineer on the Enterprise Machine Learning Engineering Platform team, you will drive the design and implementation of functionality related to the end-to-end ML and Feature lifecycle management on the Google Cloud Platform, leveraging and integrating the cloud native services with other standard operational and automation tools. The goal is to establish foundational services, automation for project and user enablement, defining best practices, and accelerators for self-service project and use case enablement. The platform serves as the enterprise standard to enable scale, security, transparency, reliability, and speed of analytical asset delivery into production.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support the deployment of advanced algorithms and applications on the platform
  • Enable functionality to support analysis, model optimization, statistical testing, model versioning, deployment and monitoring of model and data
  • Ability to translate functionality into scalable, tested, and configurable platform architecture and software
  • Mentor the engineers on the team to deliver testable product increments
  • Establish strong software engineering principles for development in Python on the Google Cloud Platform
  • Deliver features aligned to enterprise AutoML, Feature Engineering, and MLOPS capability
  • Enable logging and monitoring and automation of key metrics and metadata to standardize across platform tenants
  • Enable configuration driven infrastructure components depending on the use case
  • Enable integration with data across the enterprise (RDBMS, Warehouses, BigQuery, Bucket Storage)
  • Innovative thinking and great communication skills
  • Strong ownership of deliverables, with design decisions aligned to scale and industry best practices
  • Working with cross functional teams in an agile environment  

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in software development in analytics domains, and deep understanding of ML operationalization and lifecycle management
  • 5+ years of deploying and monitoring analytical assets in batch/real-time business processes
  • 5+ years of Python programming experience leveraging strong software development principles

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands on experience in building solutions using cloud native services (GCP preferred): bucket storage, BigQuery, Kubeflow, DataProc, VertexAI, DataFusion
  • Understanding of DevOps, Infrastructure as Code, automation for self service
  • Lead contributor to open-source python frameworks for data processing

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Masters or PHD preferred

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$144,200.00 – $288,400.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.  This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
