We believe that everyone—from our employees to the students, teachers, and administrators we serve— should be given the opportunity to learn and thrive, whatever their background may be. We celebrate diversity in all forms because it allows our team and the communities we serve to reach their full potential and do their best work.

Who you are
As our first analytics engineer, you will be responsible for building and maintaining the data layer for our analytics stack, top to bottom. Part data engineer, part data analyst, and part the connective tissue in-between, your responsibilities will span from raw data, up through cleaned, organized and sometimes analyzed data. You consider software engineering practices, like version control, automated testing, documentation, code review and continuous integration, as essential to any data stack.

What you'll do

    • Ensure our data infrastructure reliably delivers data to analytics and business systems
    • Work with engineers to model our data for easy use by all
    • Work with data analysts, designing and loading the schema to unlock their analyses
    • Work with product managers to help them understand their data so we can build the right experience for our users - teachers, directors and parents
    • Expand our data infrastructure to extract, rearrange or ship off new data streams

Qualifications, Skills, & Abilities

    • Experienced 3+ years of professional experience, preferably working cross-functionally in dynamic companies/teams
    • Write SQL that is performant, iterable and easy to debug (dbt experience is a bonus!)
    • Design the data model to enable fast and accurate analysis
    • Code new airflow operators as part of custom data pipelines
    • Analyze data to discover actionable insights, often using repeatable methods
    • Identify and scope data needs from a variety of stakeholders
    • Monitor and improve our data warehouse performance
Candidates with varying backgrounds are encouraged to apply. We do not require prior knowledge of technologies in our stack, only a desire to learn them. In brightwheel’s data stack you will encounter:
Airflow/Python
DBT
CircleCI
Kubernetes
AWS managed services, like Redshift
Segment
Tableau

Brightwheel is proud to celebrate diversity and is committed to building an inclusive workplace regardless of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy and gender identity), national origin, political affiliation, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, genetic information, age, membership in an employee organization, retaliation, parental status, military service, or other non-merit factor.
