Who we are:

We are a fully remote, distributed team living in 19 states and from a variety of backgrounds – some of us have worked in political campaigns, others in public sector tech, and others in industry. We value diversity in perspective, lived experience, and the many paths one may take in their career. We believe deeply in the promise of breaking the boom-bust cycle of political tech work and building technology infrastructure that will support campaigns from cycle to cycle, improving with every iteration.

The role:

You will own one of our most important responsibilities for the 2024 cycle: keeping our data on registered voters, and how they vote, up to date. In this role, you will partner closely with our internal product, community, engineering, and data teams, as well as our users in state parties, committees, and campaigns across the country. You will ensure that we acquire raw voter file and absentee/early vote data from each state, process it in a timely manner into our data warehouse, conduct thorough quality checks, and make the data available to users where they work with it. Successful execution will enable Democratic campaigns up and down the ballot to use their resources in the most efficient manner possible to target the right voters and win their races.

You Will (Responsibilities):

    • Coordinate with and manage cross-organizational and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure the end-to-end acquisition, processing, and delivery of voter file and absentee/early vote data
    • Partner with state parties on the acquisition schedule for raw voter file and absentee/early vote data, and ensure that they upload this data using DNC-provided tools
    • Prioritize and triage technical and quality control issues that surface in the processing of files, and assign them to data, engineering, and community team members for timely resolution
    • Facilitate “stand-up” meetings for team members to discuss the status of processed files, outstanding issues, and required support
    • Communicate directly with users, including the presidential campaign and battleground state coordinated campaigns, about the availability of data across states, status of pending files, and required timelines and prioritization for updates
    • Partner with product managers to identify opportunities to improve existing processing infrastructure and data pipelines

Does this sound like you? (Requirements):

    • I am committed to electing Democrats up and down the ballot, and I am excited about using data and technology to make that happen.
    • I build trust with team members in a wide variety of roles with different backgrounds, and can direct them to get things done in a timely manner, even when they do not formally report to me.
    • I take ownership over outcomes from my work, and I prioritize delivering on those outcomes over adhering to a previously defined process or set of responsibilities.
    • I am comfortable jumping into ambiguous and unfamiliar tasks, and I use my organizational and communication skills to define and clarify those tasks for others.
    • I am a self-starter who can rapidly learn new technical concepts and apply them to my work, even if I don’t have a formal engineering or analytics background.
    • I am curious and open-minded about problems that I run into in my work, and instead of trying to avoid them, I dig in to identify root causes and solve them.
    • I can communicate clearly, concisely, and transparently about the status of a complex process with a variety of audiences, including senior stakeholders with multiple priorities.
    • I have previous experience in an environment where I have had to juggle the needs of different stakeholders with shifting and competing urgent priorities.
    • Experience working or volunteering on a Democratic political campaign or in a state party, committee, or similar organization.
    • Professional experience collaborating with others in a cross-functional environment under significant time pressure to get things done.
    • Experience with using SQL, Google Sheets, and/or data visualization software (e.g., Google Data Studio, Tableau) to analyze large datasets and build reports.
    • Familiarity with VAN/VoteBuilder for political organizing.
    • Familiarity with Python or another similar programming language.
The starting salary for the Data Acquisitions Manager position is $85,000, on an annualized basis, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, exempt position that has an end date of November 15, 2024. This position is in the bargaining unit represented by SEIU Local-500.
