Your impact on the team

As a Senior Data Scientist - School in McGraw Hill, you will join a team of data scientists, AI researchers, software developers, and psychometricians who provide technical and scientific leadership for our most important strategic efforts companywide. You will be actively and cross-functionally involved in the entire AI/ML model development lifecycle from design to deployment. You will help design, develop, validate, operationalize, and monitor AI/ML models for our School (PreK–12) business unit, and you will collaborate closely with colleagues across functions like Product, Engineering, Learning Design, and User Experience to help McGraw Hill create and deliver world-class educational experiences.

This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States.

What you will be doing:

  • Plan, execute, and report on projects of diverse scope independently with weekly manager check-ins.
  • Support/guide junior colleagues, including acting as team lead on shared projects.
  • Propose solutions to business problems based on limited information and precedent.
  • Solve problems by adopting, adapting, and/or extending existing DS/AI approaches.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in other functions to support the creation of compelling learning experiences.
  • Learn how to balance multiple projects and revise project plans as circumstances change.

We're looking for someone with:

  • Doctoral degree (or equivalent) in AI, Data Science, or related field with 2+ years of applicable experience after doctorate.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply DS/AI knowledge to lead projects from start to finish.
  • Production experience with ML, NLP, Deep Learning, and/or LLM systems.
  • Conceptual knowledge of DS/AI through rigorous course work and industry applications.
  • Ability to create efficient, scalable Python code.
  • Experience with the K–12 educational ecosystem.
  • Familiarity with assessment in K–12.
  • Commitment to the field of education.
  • Strong technical communication and collaboration skills.

The pay range for this position is between $140,975 - $160,000 annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. An annual bonus plan may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
