About the Role:

Leads the data engineering team that builds and manages the data foundation delivering accurate and reliable information about Rhythm’s business, enabling insights that drive growth, improve customer engagement, and minimize risk. 

Responsibilities:

  • Own the data vision that enables Rhythm’s analytics goals and ambitions to be realized, including decisions on which technologies or tools to utilize, team makeup, and data processes 
  • Be hands on and engaged in the details of the data issues at Rhythm; effectively communicate with other functions and collaborate to meet their data needs 
  • Be accountable for reliability of data systems and processes that deliver data to analysts and data scientists at Rhythm 
  • Improve and scale Rhythm’s data capabilities to match company’s growth, balancing the near-term operational support needs with work that ensures long term platform success 
  • Incorporate new data sources and build data enrichment pipelines that make crucial new data sources available for analysis 
  • Manage, mentor, and lead the data engineering team in a manner consistent with Rhythm’s culture 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 7 years of experience in data or software engineering with a focus on data architecture & system design, building highly available systems for ingestion and processing of large data sets 
  • At least 2 years of experience leading teams of data engineers, either designing/deploying new data infrastructure and operational support of existing data systems 
  • Customer-oriented, action-biased individual that takes personal ownership in data system reliability, willing to get hands-on to solve problems and transfers that attitude to the team they lead 
  • Experience with architecting and managing modern cloud-based data warehouses (e.g. Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, etc.), using big data tools (e.g. Spark, Hadoop, Kafka), data pipeline/orchestration tools (e.g. Airflow, DBT), and BI tools (e.g Tableau, Power BI) 
  • Proficient in at least one modern programming language, preferably Python 
  • Strong communication, project, and people management skills with a demonstrated success in executing scalable and robust data infrastructure projects 
  • Comfortable operating in a collaborative cross-functional environment with a positive and inclusive attitude 
  • Prior experience in retail energy industry is highly desirable 

Geography:

• Rhythm is headquartered in Houston, Texas. This position is remote (U.S.) or in-office in Houston, TX.
