The Data Science & Analytics team supports Zillow Group Mortgages, a dynamic, collaborative, and high-growth team that is focused on transforming the way people buy and sell homes. The Mortgage Analytics team provides a 360-degree view of our business while acting as a trusted partner to deliver strategic insight and critical support for partners through research, analysis, reporting and cross-functional knowledge.

About the role

The Mortgage Data Science team is seeking a Data Scientist II to join us. You will collaborate with data science, product, operations and business partners with a specific focus on experimentation and product analytics. You will be a key contributor to optimizing the Mortgages web and app products that connect consumers with our network of lender partners. In this role you will:

  • Dive into Zillow's internal and third-party data to make strategic product and sales recommendations.
  • Assist in the prioritization and development of new product features and business initiatives.
  • Run AB tests to measure performance of new product initiatives
  • Develop a common language and approach to analyzing and communicating information and insights across teams.
  • Create, maintain, and document a robust set of metrics to monitor day-to-day bug detection and long-term performance tracking.
  • Tell stories that describe analytical results and insights in meetings of all sizes with diverse audiences.

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.

Who you are

You are detail oriented and intensely curious. You will develop a deep understanding of the core business model and how product changes can move the needle for the consumer experience. You are a strong communicator and adept with SQL, data visualization and AB testing practices.

  • An undergraduate or Master’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g. mathematics, engineering, statistics, finance, or similar).
  • 2+ years of work experience involving quantitative data analysis and complex problem solving (preferably focused on consumer-facing internet products).
  • Proficiency in SQL, Excel, and either Python or R, along with experience in Tableau, Mode, or other visualization software.
  • Experience directly querying multi-terabyte-sized data sets (e.g. with Hive and Presto) including clickstream data and raw data ingested from non-standard platforms (e.g., homegrown systems).
  • An understanding of concepts, terminology, and measurement issues related to web traffic.
  • Strong written, verbal, and visual interpersonal skills to concisely communicate in a way that provides context, offers insights and minimizes misinterpretation.
  • The skills to work cross-functionally and push business partners to focus on realistic goals and projects.
