Position Description
A Distinguished Data Architect will be an expert in Enterprise, Solution, and Application/Technicaldata architecture with a strong understanding of Enterprise techIT and bBusiness aAlignment, Enterprise standards and practices, solution design for cloud and distributed applications as well as a strong understanding of application design practices, principles, and patterns. Distinguished Data Architects are deep technical experts and thought leaders that help accelerate the adoption of engineering and architecture best practices while maintaining knowledge on industry innovations, trends, and practices. They collaborate on the toughest issues to deliver on business needs that directly impact the lives of our customers and associates. They are role models and mentors, helping to coach and strengthen the technical expertise and know-how of our engineering and product community. They establish themselves as a go-to resource on given technologies and technology-enabled capabilities.
Position Responsibilities
As a Distinguished Data Architect II, you will:
Have a significant role in establishing and evaluating service maturity standards
Demonstrates significant experience with hands on development and big picture architecture; able to mentor engineers and educate executives
Design and develop cutting-edge data solutions, using existing and emerging technology platforms
Leverage sound judgment and problem solving to tackle some of Geico’s most critical problems and connect the dots to broader implications of the work
Provide technical vision, technical solutions and directions to build complex and sustainable enterprise data solutions and platforms
Oversee the design of architectures for enterprise-level data solutions and implementations
Embrace and incubate emerging technology and open source products across all platforms
Collaborate with enterprise teams on developing and adhering to the enterprise standards in terms of validation rules, nomenclature, design and deployments.
Develop, demonstrate, and advocate enterprise data architecture strategy at all levels from new engineers to senior executives
Collaborate with internal teams to find areas of opportunities for automation and machine learning
Establish data architectural best practices and standards for the enterprise
Build awareness, increase knowledge and drive adoption of modern technologies and architecture patterns, sharing customer and engineering benefits to gain buy-in (working closely with leaders, other SMEs, and engineers)
Strike the right balance between lending expertise and providing an inclusive environment where others’ ideas can be heard and championed; leverage expertise to grow skills in the broader Geico team (balance being a great coach and listener)
Effectively communicate with and influence key stakeholders across the enterprise, at all levels of the organization
Operate as a trusted advisor for a specific technology, platform or capability domain the data space, helping to shape use cases and implementation in an integrated manner
Qualifications
Familiar with of Microsoft Azure services. Azure certification preferred.
Deep domain knowledge in the data space including data ingestion, data transformation, data analytics, data platform, data management, data security, and AI/ML their area of focus; i.e., enterprise, data, security, network etc.
Strong writing skills and thought leadership
Ability to influence through persuasion
Ability to create a set of requirements in partnership with their customers and to ensure solutions map to the goals of the organization and customer needs
Strong problem-solving skills – ability to see past the immediate answer to the simple, elegant solution
Ability to see and implement patterns that enable solution simplification
Innovative thought leadership
Experience
15+ years of experience in an data architecture or engineering role
15+ years of experience with programming language such as .NET, C#, Java, Python, SQL, etc
7+ years of experience in building system in Microsoft Azure cloud environments
7+ years of experience designing successful enterprise capabilities, systems and products meeting security, scalability, performance and compliance requirements
7+ years of experience in a team leadership role
5+ years of experience with agile methods, developing end-to-end lifecycle software management, integration testing, and CI/CD automation tools
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or related field; Master’s degree preferred (or equivalent verifiable experience, skillset and track record of success)

Annual Salary
$120,000.00 - $300,500.00
The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
