GEICO Data Engineering - Data Analytics and Platform Team is seeking a highly motivated individual with a proven track record of delivering results and deriving efficiencies through automation to lead the team responsible for decision support system platform. Data Analytics and Platform team support bigdata ecosystem in IBM Cloud and currently migrating it to next gen GEICO Data Hub (GDH) in Azure. Candidate must have good verbal and written communication skills, proven track record of leading medium to large projects across multiple business units and external business partners.
Responsibilities:
- Strong relationship building to establish and foster great relationships with Tech teams and customers
- Able to work independently while functioning as part of a cohesive cross-functional leadership team
- Coach, develop, and manage associates including establishing goals and evaluating performance
- Identify and manage technical risks and dependencies informed by understanding of involved technologies
- Empower team by fostering a culture that allows critical thinking and open communication
- Lead the team to create operational procedures for existing and new data platform services
- Lead people, products, and process in a fast paced environment and drive problem solving of cross team technical issues
- Must be willing to support and improve 24x7 on-call responsibilities
Basic Qualifications:
- 3+ years hands on experience as a Sr Developer, Engineer or Architect in at least one of the following technologies - Java, database management, or DevOps.
- 1+ years of experience leading team(s) of technologists in delivering on-mission solutions with speed and quality
- Proven track record of supporting and operationalizing production applications and passion for delivering cloud-based applications that leverage new technological opportunities and exceed our customers' needs
- Experience with Hadoop Ecosystem, NoSQL databases and Spark
- Ability and passion to learn new technologies and keep up with fast changing technology landscape
- Experience in Cloud (Azure, AWS, IBM) technologies and integration of off-prem and on-prem applications
- Experience in developing associates through providing coaching, feedback, and mentoring
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills, including communicating technical issues to non-technical audiences
- Good understanding of Agile practices including Scrum/Kanban, any SAFe experience in a PLUS
- Proven record of improving processes and being a vocal leader among peers
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ year of experience working with any tow of the following relations and non-relational databases - Oracle, PostgreSQL, MS-SQL, DataStax, MongoDB
- 3+ years of experience in working with J2EE applications deployed on Linux/Unix environment
- Experience with NoSQL databases like Cosmos or DataStax(DSE) is a PLUS
- Experience working in Azure ecosystem (Azure Data lake, Azure Data Bricks, ADO)
- Microsoft AZ-900 is a PLUS along with any other Azure admin certifications
- Automation experience using Python/Bash or PowerShell
- Experience leading Agile team and leverage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to inform progress against the roadmap
- Experience with CI/CD pipeline setup with best practices using Azure DevOps (ADO)
- Any ETL development experience using Spark is a PLUS
- A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, related field (Engineering, business, finance, mathematics, computer science)
