Senior Data Scientist (REMOTE/HYBRID) – Computer Vision

GEICO's claims data science team uses a variety of machine learning methods and data sources to create innovative products and systems to enhance the operational efficiency and customer experience of our claims handling processes. We see our projects through the entire data science lifecycle, from problem definition to data exploration, data cleaning, modeling, analysis, and deployment into production systems. We maintain a close partnership with IT and business stakeholders to ensure that our systems can be deployed quickly and monitored continuously.

We are looking for a senior data scientist to spearhead initiatives integrating computer vision and image analytics into Geico’s claims handling processes. You will serve as a technical and thought leader on a diverse and highly skilled team. You will research, develop, and deploy machine learning systems to streamline claim handling experiences and underwriting decisions to create a competitive advantage for GEICO. You will analyze large datasets with hundreds of millions of images and solve complex business problems using state-of-the-art AI/ML models. You will work in a highly collaborative team environment, guiding and mentoring junior data scientists and collaborating with multiple stakeholders. You will help management communicate insights and implement impactful data science solutions across the organization.

Expected Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline, such as statistics, data science, computer science, mathematics, engineering, physics, etc.
  • 4+ years of experience in designing, developing, evaluating, and deploying machine learning systems, with at least 2 years of experience in computer vision related projects
  • Deep understanding and experience with advanced statistics and machine learning techniques, including GLMs, tree ensembles, deep learning, causal inference, survival analysis, etc.
  • Superior coding skills using common data science languages, including Python (strongly preferred), R, Linux/Unix command line and shell scripting
  • Excellent skill and extensive experience in big data processing tools such as Apache Spark, Snowflake or equivalent querying language and systems
  • Strong experience with common cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP
  • Excellent communication skills and experience in working with stakeholders
  • Passion for extracting hidden insights and building ML systems that enhance business outcomes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding and experience with state-of-the-art models in image classification, object detection, image segmentation and multi-modal learning
  • Experience with Deep Learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch
  • Experience with GPU-based model training and inference infrastructure and architecture
  • Experience with (cloud/mobile/frontend) deployment and integration of deep learning models
  • Experience with the insurance industry is a plus

Location Requirements:

  • This position can be fully remote. Remote associates are expected to travel twice a year to our corporate HQ in Chevy Chase, MD where the hiring team is located
  • Associates based in the DC metro area are expected to follow a hybrid work schedule

Annual Salary

$100,000.00 - $204,500.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
