The role of the Principal Data Engineer is to lead and execute the technical strategy to build highly trusted data products and foundation level solutions for the analytic and product challenges surrounding and driving the vision of Clearco.

Responsibilities: 

  • You will own sets of data products through their entire lifecycle and are expected to influence efficiencies in adjacent systems inline with strategic architecture patterns.  This will span from design and architecture to deployment and maintenance, leading others where necessary through development via principles and standards.
  • Working closely with every member of the Data Science and MLOps Team, along with collaborating with business teams, vendors and external partners.  You will produce significant components and foundations.
  • Collaborate with all functions of Clearco, ranging from core Engineering team to the marketing team, to educate on proper data practices and procedures.
  • You will be in constant communication with the team to understand what features of the platform need to be built out both in the short and long run, and helpfully coach the entire team towards an understanding of both low and high level understanding.
  • You will scope out business needs, and action them with speed and accuracy and then lead and execute hand-in-hand with the team.

  • Have demonstrated experience working in a high-ranking software engineering role, you are an expert when it comes to software development and you’re ready to roll up your sleeves to get the job done! 
  • Have a strong business sense, you can foresee potential issues and solve them quickly
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams.
  • Tangible evidence related to building businesses, e-commerce and fintech.  This could mean advising, co-founding or open-source experience that is beyond a track-career norms.

Technical Requirements:

  • Ideally, you have worked on 4 or more different stacks in your career in a professional setting for at least 8 months each where one or more was for material amount and user-volume level.  This means you probably have between 5 years and 10 years of experience in increasingly valuable business-systems.  
  • Distributed architecture experience heavily reliant on time-series data is a must.
  • Contributed to both strategy and development around one or more enabling data systems such as Data Lakes, Data Warehouses, and Machine Learning Model Lifecycle Management technologies.
  • Able to architect at multiple horizons with strategic optionality, while managing tradeoffs between stakeholders, changing APIs and evolving technology trends.
  • Comfortable steering, and delivering against, a changing roadmap in a fast pace team – building the plane after take-off
  • Expert knowledge of  relational databases and schemas involving time-series
  • Export acumen in a wide variety of languages and technologies, including but not limited to  Python, SQL, Snowflake, Kubernetes and pipeline management/orchestration tools (Eg. Airflow, Argo).
  • Experience scaling a data strategy with managed services and big data technologies
  • Expert knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or similar (AWS, Azure)
