About the role

Zillow Group is currently seeking a Data Scientist to join the Marketing Data Science & Analytics team ( marketing DSA). As a data scientist, you will play a vital role in creating visually compelling representations of complex data to provide insights and support decision-making for marketing stakeholders. 

On the Marketing DSA team, we're passionate about unearthing insights that help our marketing team in shaping the future of Zillow Group. The team works closely with the marketing organization to discover strategic opportunities in areas spanning brand marketing and performance marketing across channels like google, Facebook, TV & multiple business lines like rentals, B2C and B2B. In this role, you will work closely with data science, marketing, product, and other DVEs on the team to build and maintain reporting and quality marketing performance data. Building and maintaining data science solutions that support enhancing marketing efficiency and delivering insights that empower the marketing team will be a key focus of this role. More specifically you will:

  • Analyze and interpret large, complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights that support marketing execution and optimization.

  • Collaborate with marketing stakeholders to define key metrics, goals, and objectives, and develop data-driven strategies to achieve them.

  • Utilize statistical modeling and machine learning techniques to develop & maintain that evaluate marketing performance.

  • Conduct in-depth market and customer segmentation analysis to identify target audiences and inform marketing campaign strategies 

  • Mentor and coach junior team members on executing analytic requests and help unblocking through code reviews & best practice sharing.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, such as marketing operations, paid marketing and owned marketing teams, to ensure relevant insights are surfaced for decision making.

  • Collaborate with data engineering teams to design and optimize data pipelines and workflows to support efficient data collection, storage, and processing. 

  • Provide insights and recommendations based on data analysis to improve marketing campaign effectiveness, customer targeting, and lead generation.

  • Effectively communicate complex analytical findings to diverse stakeholders, translating technical concepts into actionable insights and recommendations.

  • Dive into Zillow's internal and third party data (think Hive, Presto, SQL Server, Tableau) to develop solutions that will help move the business forward and enable better decisions at a rapid speed.

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.

In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York and Washington the standard base pay range for this role is $140,900.00 - $225,100.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York and Washington and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are

We are looking for someone who is passionate about reporting, translating complicated data sets and business problems into easily consumable and impactful insights. You will also need to be unafraid of tackling complexity and new business problems. We're searching for a Data Scientist who has:

  • An undergraduate or Master's degree in a quantitative field (e.g. mathematics, engineering, statistics, finance, or similar) 4 years of work experience involving quantitative data analysis and complex problem solving. 

  • 5 years or more of experience as a data scientist experience querying multi-terabyte-sized noisy data sets such as clickstream data.

  • A strong understanding of statistical concepts, measurement methods, and causal inference techniques as it relates to the marketing space. 

  • Mastery of SQL, Excel, and either Python or R, along with some experience with Tableau, Mode, or other visualization software. 

  • Ability to work cross-functionally and strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills. 

  • Proficiency in modeling techniques, a deep understanding on various drivers forms of attribution methods and measurement mechanisms in the marketing space 

  • Understanding and appreciation of how marketing strategies vary across B2B and B2C & how that influences measurement and data science methods. 

  • Demonstrated experience in coaching teams both at a tactical layer and strategic layer.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with tools like DBT, Snowflake, Looker, Tableau, Airflow or Fivetran

  • Master's degree in a quantitative field (e.g. science, engineering, mathematics) or equivalent experience.

  • Experience with online marketing, understanding of the ad tech space, changes happening in the privacy realm and marketing measurement ecosystem

  • Work in agile methodology and familiar with Jira tool

  • Familiar with data engineering tools and platforms

  • Experience in SEO and Google Analytics

  • Experience building Marketing Mix Models or Attribution Models using statistical or machine learning techniques
