This position is part of the Enterprise Data & Analytics team (EDA), a high-performance group chartered with delivering a beautifully simple analytics foundation and service that allows Zendesk to scale to a $3 Billion company with clearly defined, consistent metrics and a data architecture that provides all business operations with high quality and timely analytics for efficient decision making. Ultimately, our data ecosystem is used to improve our operational efficiencies, deepen our understanding of the business, and improve our customers’ experience.

The EDA Data Solutions team gets the glorious privilege of working on some of the most challenging analytics data problems at Zendesk. Our small but mighty pod partners with a variety of stakeholders to truly identify with their data challenges to develop strategies, requirements, and in some cases validate or invalidate potential solutions with insightful proofs of concepts.

While our team is not responsible for delivering solutions in production, we deliver technical requirements and partner with our EDA Platform team to help ensure the strategy is realized. The person in this role will influence the trajectory of our analytics and will impact decision making capabilities throughout the company.

What you get to do every day:

  • Connect with business teams, product owners, analysts, engineers and other data consumers to determine data needs

  • Develop and use a detailed approach to work through the most pressing analytics data challenges

  • Design, build, and test data solutions

  • Utilize your technical skills and programming languages to tease out solution capabilities

  • Collect, construct, and communicate data engineering requirements and documentation to EDA Platform team

  • Advocate for data standard methodologies to the analytics community we serve

  • Own the solution designs and be their champion

  • Engage with engineers and users to ensure shared success and deeper insights

  • Practice good data hygiene and implementation standards

  • Provide regular updates for technical and non-technical stakeholders
     

What you bring to the role:

  • Self-motivated and driven by the purpose outlined above. Eager to be a leader at Zendesk in understanding how product data needs to be consumed by our organization

  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, and an ability to listen and understand root needs across many different business units

  • Deep desire to make your partners successful when using your solutions

  • Demonstrated ability to detail schemas, data models, data dictionaries, etc.

  • Well-established personal processes to prioritize multiple requests from varied stakeholders, in a way that maintains clear priority, adjusts when needed, and is always helpful and cheerful

  • Experience with relational, columnar, and graph databases

  • Must demonstrate proven SQL skills with 3 + years experience in this area.

  • Proficiency in at least two programming languages

  • 4+ years working with SaaS web applications, and similar technologies

  • 4+ years experience in a similar role

  • Data modeling skills a plus

  • Experience with data visualization tools a plus

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) a plus

  • Bachelor’s Degree
