THE TEAM
The Core Data Services team is at the center of Data and Analytics initiative. We are in the beginning of our journey to build an enterprise data platform capable to be a true underpinning of any data needs for the enterprise. Our mission is to make reliable data available and enable value creation by the data community of engineers, analysts and decision makers. Core Data Services team consists of Platform engineering team, Data Engineering, Data Enablement and Operations team. BI is part of Data Enablement and is a critical component of providing users visibility into the data and providing self-service for interacting with data first hand.
Core Data Services is currently in process of adopting Spark as our main ETL engine and realizing the value of highly functional, performant and transparent Data Lake, all this while maintaining and streamlining existing data infrastructure and doing careful migration. These activities will create new opportunities for business intelligence functionality and effective data value delivery.
Our mission is to provide the right users with the right data at the right time and we are dedicated to defining and building a world class service model for Business Intelligence. This is an exciting opportunity for a BI QA Analyst to explore our data in all it’s glory and identify and address data issues in a time sensitive environment. We have numerous sources of data and we need to clearly understand the differences and standardize the metrics on which we’re reporting and how data relates to each other.
The ideal candidate is obsessed with the quality of data. This position requires someone with strong analytical and statistical skills, with a solid knowledge of SQL and various BI toolsets. The candidate must also possess deep technical experience working with disparate sources of data such as marketing and orders data.
Success in this role means understanding the data journey from source to visualizations, communicating with end users and going through troves of existing reports and dashboards to: 1) Identify any data quality issues, 2) Identify irregularities in the way data is being used in addition to how data is perceived. WHAT THIS ROLE WILL DO
Design, develop, build, automate QA/testing framework for BI data development
Design, develop, build, automate QA/testing framework for BI development for reporting and dashboards
Partner with various teams, including Product, Engineering, Finance, and others to assess how data should tie out / relate from disparate sources
Partner with various teams, including Product, Engineering, Finance, and others to regularly as part of the development life cycle Document your work and help maintain our existing documents using Confluence, Google Docs, Lucid Charts and other such tools stack
Work with the user community to ensure current reports meet expectations
Work with disparate data sources and be able to compare and identify data quality issues in a time sensitive manner
Dive into different reports, datasets and dashboards to understand any potential overlaps in data use, discrepancies in logic and make recommendations for streamlining and simplifying
WHAT THIS PERSON WILL BRING:
Strong analytical skills for deep data analysis, data profiling, assessing data fit for purpose
Required experience analyzing data across disparate sources
Required experience across marketing data in analyzing, understanding and standardizing metrics
Required Experience with SQL, Databricks, Python
Ability to apply advanced analytical techniques to datasets in order to get questions answered by data / understand data better
Skillset to work with large data volumes
Detail oriented with strong time management and organizational skills
Innate willingness to roll up sleeves
Experience with various BI tools
Good understanding of Data Lakes, Data Warehouses is important to have
Software development, coding expertise in the data science field using Python/Spark/Scala/R/Java is good to have
Working knowledge of Databricks, Snowflake, Teradata, Oracle, or Google BigQuery
An understanding of diverse data sources and data formats (xml, json, yaml, parquet, avro, delta) and respective use cases is good to have
An excellent understanding of the nuances that add complexities around time zones, geo, various data formats, data types across different storage systems is nice to have
There are a number of skills listed above, but really, at the heart of data quality in BI is a strong data analyst who is able to navigate our data with a focus on Data Quality, automation – so don’t worry if you don’t check all the boxes!
