The data engineering team designs, develops, and optimizes the flow of data throughout the organization, enabling Color to provide valuable insights to our partners who in turn can more effectively manage the health of their populations.  This team covers a large area, with the primary responsibility of ensuring that data from our production database flows smoothly and seamlessly into data sources for external and internal partners. 
This role is open to remote work outside of the San Francisco Bay Area!

How You'll Contribute:

    • Develop and automate large-scale data processing systems to deliver data insights at an enterprise scale across Color’s operations. The system will be crucial for teams to be able to respond appropriately to public health events.
    • Develop logging, metrics, and alerts that enable us to ensure our data is fresh for internal and external stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with software engineers to develop data models and schemas that help provide easy access to complex data sets.
    • Work with data scientists and analysts to help design systems for returning data insights to internal partners and external customers, e.g. Color Data.

Our Ideal Candidate Will Have:

    • 7+ years of industry experience as a software engineer (or equivalent role). 
    • 1+ years of experience leading teams of engineers building and maintaining complex engineering systems
    • Ability to design, build and maintain large systems for data-pipelines
    • Maintain a high bar for quality of code and are passionate about rigorous engineering practices
    • Working knowledge of SQL databases and queries, as well as experience designing data schemas
    • You have experience working with modern computing platforms and tools such as AWS, git, PostgreSQL, and Docker
    • You are able to lead complex software engineering projects from design to completion
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with technical and non-technical partners from many teams

Nice to Have:

    • You’ve previously worked with large amounts of healthcare or genomic data

Possible Projects to Contribute to:

    • Design a fast and reliable data processing pipeline that outputs aggregated and summarized results of SARS-CoV-2 testing per population
    • Develop new next generation processing pipeline and infrastructure for Color to enable fast access to healthcare data
    • Build tools that process thousands of genetic variants per sample and store them for easy access
