Aviation Safety Data Scientist

We have an opportunity for you to use your leadership and analytical skills to improve the safety of civil aviation and the National Airspace System. You’ll work closely with your customer to understand their questions and needs, and then dig into their data-rich environment to find the pieces of their information puzzle. You’ll mentor teammates, provide aviation safety Subject Matter Expertise, collaborate across industry, analyze safety data, write scripts, build analytical tools and capabilities, and use the right combination of tools and frameworks to turn that set of disparate data points into objective answers to help quantify known safety risks, discover new risks and vulnerabilities, and make informed decisions and recommendations for the aviation industry. You’ll provide your customer with a deep understanding of their data, what it all means, and how they can use it. As a technical leader, you’ll identify new opportunities to use data science solutions to help your customers meet their toughest challenges. You Have:
- 10+ years of experience in aviation safety data analysis
- Experience with GE Digital’s Event Measurement System (EMS)
- Experience collaborating with the aviation safety community
- Experience using data visualization software and tools, including Tableau
- Experience using relational database systems, including SQL
- Experience using Python programming in support of aviation safety risk monitoring and anomaly detection using aviation safety data
- Knowledge of aviation system flight operations
- Knowledge of Flight Operational Quality Assurance (FOQA), FAA radar, and Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) data
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination based on client requirements
- Master’s degree
Nice If You Have:
- Experience with analysis of big data using PySpark, HDFS, or similar
- Experience collaborating with FAA ASIAS program leadership
- Experience working with fused aviation safety data
- Experience working with back-end data processing to enable automated metric generation
- Experience in technical mentorship and staff training
- Experience providing thought leadership and technical guidance to government clients
- Knowledge of Air Traffic Control systems and processes

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $110,000.00 to $250,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees. This posting will close within 90 days from the Posting Date.
