Role Description

We are looking for a technical leader to help shape the Machine Learning agenda for Dropbox’s new initiatives. This will involve developing high impact ML solutions that touch hundreds of millions of people and a *lot* of data. From images to documents in every language, using the full range of Machine Learning techniques from deep learning, interacting with modern LLMs (natural language), computer vision, etc. and executing everywhere from mobile devices to large clusters on our back-end infrastructure.

This individual will work closely with senior executives, colleagues, and stakeholders to shape priorities, establish roadmaps, and bring about transformative Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) products and capabilities. The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of and hands-on experience in constructing expansive data and AI products and platforms. They must also exhibit an unwavering commitment to engineering and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

You will work with machine learning experts across Dropbox to help shape where and how we use machine learning
You will build delightful products and experiences for millions, while working alongside an excellent, multi-functional team across Engineering, Product and Design
Continuously innovate and drive the adoption of ML best practices and technologies, to enhance both internal and external product experiences.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of ML capabilities into Dropbox's products.
Recruit, mentor, and retain a high-performing team of AI/ML engineers, while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
Set and maintain a high bar for technical excellence

Requirements

10+ years of experience building machine learning or AI systems in applied settings
Strong communication skills and a demonstrated passion for helping others leverage machine learning
Significant experience in building and leading high-performing engineering teams, with a focus on AI/ML development and applied research.
Strong understanding of Language Models (LLMs) and related technologies is highly desirable.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment. Comfortable taking calculated risks and experimenting with new approaches.
A history of delivering tangible results and achieving objectives within the ML and AI domain.
A commitment to continuous innovation and staying up-to-date with the latest ML best practices and technologies.
BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field involving Machine Learning, or equivalent technical experience

Total Rewards

Dropbox takes a number of factors into account when determining individual starting pay, including job and level they are hired into, location/metropolitan area, skillset, and peer compensation. We target most new hire offers between the minimum up to the middle of the range.

Salary/OTE is just one component of Dropbox’s total rewards package. All regular employees are also eligible for the corporate bonus program or a sales incentive (target included in OTE) as well as stock in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).

Current Salary/OTE Ranges (Subject to change):

US Zone 1: $318,800 - $375,000 - $431,300
US Zone 2: $286,900 - $337,500 - $388,100
US Zone 3: $255,000 - $300,000 - $345,000

Dropbox uses the zip code of an employee’s remote work location to determine which metropolitan pay range we use. Current US Zone locations are as follows:

US Zone 1: San Francisco metro, New York City metro, or Seattle metro
US Zone 2: Austin (TX) metro, Chicago metro, California (outside SF metro), Colorado, Connecticut (outside NYC metro), Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York (outside NYC metro), Oregon, Pennsylvania (outside NYC or DC metro), Washington (outside Seattle metro) and Washington DC metro
US Zone 3: All other US locations
