Role Description

Dropbox Business Foundations is looking for a Data Governance Expert to explore and understand data and data process across all of Dropbox, and develop a Data Governance framework to manage the way we collect, use, and share data. This role will require strong collaboration with multiple teams across the company to create data maps, data dictionaries, security and compliance classifications, and other key artifacts, as well as mechanisms to ensure they are properly managed and fully utilized across the company.

This role offers an exciting opportunity for a candidate with strong data skills and experience in data governance to shape and drive company-wide delivery of a data governance framework. In strong partnership with compliance, privacy, security, documentation, and quality objectives, you will create and implement a well-designed data governance program that includes long term-planning with clearly defined milestones and procedures. You will also be expected to be involved with root-cause-analysis around any major issues, ensuring that high risks related to data governance are effectively mitigated.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for building relationships with stakeholders to create a culture for understanding and mitigating risk through policy awareness and the development and application of sound controls.
  • Establishing the data governance strategy including the related methodologies, policies, processes, standards, and metrics to ensure the quality and security of the data used across Dropbox.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the company to identify and capture the data lifecycle and source-to-target data mapping.
  • Support and track the application of the data governance framework, drive adoption, implementation, configuration of workflows and processes, and build a culture of understanding and mitigating risk through awareness of policy and data controls.
  • Define and manage the data classification, data governance, data ownership, data inventory and data privacy management programs.
  • Create and support implementation of data access, retention, and disposition standards to support legal, technical, and business requirements.
  • Deliver education and training on data governance concepts, standards, guidelines, and processes.
  • Ensure issue management processes are in place to capture and resolve data issues in a timely manner and lead coordination of data quality remediation plans where data fails to meet established data governance standards.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data governance, data management, and data protection (prior experience working with large datasets would be beneficial but not required). As the Data Governance Specialist, you will be responsible for developing and executing our data governance strategy, as well as ensuring adherence to data governance standards and guidelines across the organization. You will work closely with various stakeholders to promote a culture of data quality and compliance, and to enhance the value of our data assets and communicate the data governance vision, strategy, and importance of managing data as an asset.

  • Minimum 8+ years experience in data governance implementation, including data management, data governance, and data quality.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills with proven ability to establish and cultivate relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Successful program management experience including the implementation of data management policies and standards.
  • Demonstrated change management skills and strategies related to data management projects, including communication, culture change, and performance measurement system design.

For candidates hired in San Francisco metro, New York City metro, or Seattle metro, the expected salary/On-Target Earnings (OTE) range for the role is currently $199,800 - $235,000 - $270,300.

For candidates hired in the following locations: Austin (TX) metro, Chicago metro, California (outside SF metro), Colorado, Connecticut (outside NYC metro), Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York (outside NYC metro), Oregon, Pennsylvania (outside NYC or DC metro), Washington (outside Seattle metro) and Washington DC metro, the expected salary/On-Target Earnings (OTE) range for the role is currently $179,800 - $211,500 - $243,200.

For candidates hired in all other US locations, the expected salary/On-Target Earnings (OTE) range for this role is currently $159,800 - $188,000 - $216,200.

Range(s) is subject to change. Dropbox takes a number of factors into account when determining individual starting pay, including job and level they are hired into, location/metropolitan area, skillset, and peer compensation. Dropbox uses the zip code of an employee’s remote work location to determine which metropolitan pay range we use.

Salary/OTE is just one component of Dropbox’s total rewards package. All regular employees are also eligible for the corporate bonus program or a sales incentive (target included in OTE) as well as stock in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
