Summary

The Data Science Senior Manager position provides an opportunity to steer and execute a vision for Health Services and Revenue Management Analytics, building and managing a team to develop new capabilities enabled by statistical modeling. The Data Science Senior Manager will work collaboratively with business partners and senior leaders across the organization, including Clinical Operations, Actuary, Risk Adjustment, Analytics, and Finance to provide strategic partnership in analytics. Using advanced statistical techniques, the Senior Manager will transform concepts and ideas into practical business solutions in order to solve diverse and complex business needs through a team of data scientists.

Reporting to the Director of Medicare Health Services and Revenue Management, this position will develop and mentor a strong team through leadership and hands-on capability to transform decision-making, coordinate strategy, prioritization, and key deliverables with a variety of teams. This position will blend creativity, advanced analytical and technical competencies, problem solving, business acumen, and leadership to manage a complex portfolio of analytic solutions that will support cost savings and clinical care initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, develop, and lead a team of data scientists to create and sustain a portfolio of scalable analytic capabilities enabled by statistical methods for Medicare Health Services and Revenue Management Analytics.

  • Establish best practices to ensure modeling contributions and work products are built on a sound foundation to ensure sustainable, reliable execution.

  • Oversee matched case-control studies and/or other statistical analyses for determining the effectiveness of health program services and solutions

  • Delegate and oversee modeling projects under concurrent development, prioritizing work across multiple project types, removing roadblocks, communicating project statuses, insights, and resulting business recommendations to senior leadership.

  • Interact regularly with cross-functional leaders to understand business strategy, effectively deploying advanced analytic solutions to help the organization achieve strategic goals.  

  • Partner with others within the Government Business Segment Analytics team to continuously improve department procedures, such as management processes and the implementation strategy of new technology solutions.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of work experience in analytics and data science domain focusing on business problems and prior people management experience

  • Advanced technical competencies including:

    • Demonstrated expertise with Python or ‘R’ programming language

    • Demonstrated experience navigating relational databases and extracting data using SQL/Teradata

    • Experience organizing best practices for model development, ensuring consistencies in documentation & coding style across a team to help enable portability of models among data scientists

  • Proficiency, understanding and experience with a handful of the leading supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods such as Multiple Regression, Logistic Regression, Neural Networks, Deep Learning, KNN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Trees, Random Forest, Gradient Boosting and Ensemble methods is required

  • Previous experience with evaluation methodologies such as matched case control or randomized trials

  • Experience using statistical and data mining techniques, and integrating data science models into applications

  • Sound knowledge in dealing with large data sets for analytical approach and quantitative methods

  • Ability to influence and collaborate with leaders at all levels of the organization.

  • Strong communication skills and business acumen to translate between business need & statistical modeling specifications

  • Collaborative leadership implementing innovative analytic and management solutions that drive outstanding results

Preferred

  • Advanced degree in Statistics, Applied Math, Computer Science or related field

  • Clinical analytics experience

  • Experience managing a virtual team

This position is not eligible to be performed in Colorado.
